Girls in Animation: Advancing Blender 3D Animation Skills for Women Across Africa

Girls in Animation is excited to share that our latest Blender 3D software training program has been successfully concluded, marking a major achievement in our goal to support young women in the animation field. Thanks to the generous funding from the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF), we have provided 20 skilled women across Africa, including participants from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sierra Leone, with the essential expertise and tools to succeed in animation. The training was structured to accommodate the schedules of workers and students, ensuring that everyone could benefit from this opportunity.

A Vision Realized

Our vision at Girls in Animation is to create a vibrant community of female animators, fostering collaboration and innovation. The recent training program, held from June 29th to July 13th, 2024, embodied this vision by providing participants with intensive, hands-on training in Blender 3D software, one of the industry's leading tools.

Comprehensive Training for a Promising Future

Throughout the program, we were privileged to have expert facilitators who brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the training:

  • Adzo, president of Girls in Animation, delivered the opening session on Introduction to Animation and Income Opportunities, setting the stage for the training and inspiring participants with her insights into the industry.

  • Gabriel Mensah, a Character artist & 3D animator, guided participants through the Introduction to Blender Interface and conducted subsequent online sessions, covering everything from modeling and texturing to lighting, rigging, and animation principles.

  • Nii Ofei Co-founder, Indigen Bros, provided strategies for managing animation projects effectively, focusing on Animation Project Management, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines without compromising quality.

  • Osam, a consultant on emerging technologies, spoke about the importance of adapting to emerging technologies, emphasizing AI Adaptability and how to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving animation industry.

  • Karen, Creative Director, KHPH Studios, an industry professional with extensive experience, led the soft skills training on Portfolio Building, helping participants develop strong portfolios that showcase their unique talents and technical prowess.

The program culminated in a final in-person session on July 13th, where participants shared their experiences and the knowledge they gained. Many expressed how the training boosted their confidence and prepared them for future opportunities in the animation industry. The collective growth and enthusiasm displayed were a testament to our participants' hard work and dedication, who impressed everyone with their commitment and progress.
